As a local in San Diego—and worldwide traveler—I’ve vacationed myself in La Jolla, less than 30 minutes from my home. San Diego makes a great staycation…La Jolla in particular. The best thing about La Jolla—if you’re in or near the village— is that this pretty little peninsula pretty much ensures that you’re either staying oceanfront or within an easy walk of the beach.
Whether you’re hitting the beach, combing the tide pools or snorkeling La Jolla Cove, everything is an easy walk away.
1. Oceanfront Luxury Beach Cottage
Looking for La Jolla beach house rentals? If you’re traveling with a group, you can’t beat this oceanfront cottage or the sunset views over the ocean from the Adirondack chairs on your front porch.
This is a bucket list property. It’s flooded with natural light and conveniently located right in the village.
This three-bedroom place sleeps eight with three bedrooms and two baths. It features a fully equipped kitchen and luxury jacuzzi with lounge seating.

It’s just steps from Windandsea Beach and an easy walk into the village. (Use the private outdoor shower to rinse off.) Little Point Beach Pools is also very close by.
You’ll love having not one, but two private patios for sunning in the day and cozy nighttime gathering (complete with mood lighting).
The cottage can accommodate up to three guests as it includes both a queen bed and sofa bed. Cozy kitchenette and full-sized refrigerator are included as well.

Parking in La Jolla can be challenging, so you’ll be happy to know that you’ll enjoy access to two underground parking spaces at this property, as well as an an easy walk into the village to bypass all that.

6. Budget Studio near the Beach
If you’d love to stay in swank La Jolla and enjoy an ocean view but are on a tight budget, look no further than this studio apartment that is just 500 feet to the beach!
At under $100 per night, it’s a great find. It includes a queen-sized bed, full kitchen and bath, with a separate entrance on the second floor of this apartment building.
While there’s no laundry in the apartment, you are free to use the building facilities. A reserved parking spot is included.
The location is great, too. In addition to easy beach access, it’s just a half mile to Vons grocery store and five minutes to some of La Jolla’s best restaurants and taco stands.

7. Modern Villa with Zen Vibe
This beautiful second floor two bedroom villa offers panoramic ocean views…and it’s just steps from La Jolla Beach.
Imagine sipping coffee in a rocking chair from the beautiful deck or sipping sunset cocktails here as you listen to the waves crash just below.

With the waves crashing just outside your front door, you’re also within easy walking distance to La Jolla’s tony galleries, boutiques, and restaurants.
You’ll find two guest bedrooms downstairs—one with a double bed and one with a murphy bed—plus a king bed in the master bedroom upstairs. Plus, there’s a sofa bed to sleep an additional guest.
